The Grandfather of all bushcraft.

I was so excited when I saw that Karamat (a bushcraft and survival school in Canada) had Mors Kochanski on staff. He literally wrote the book on “Bushcraft”.  Better yet they have him making videos. Granted a lot of the skills he teaches can be learned other places. Terry Barney at the Midwest School of Bushcraft comes to mind. But there’s just something about the way Mors goes about teaching that just enchants me. It’s the little smile he gets on his face when he does something he thinks is neat. And the way he goes far beyond “Survival” but really stretches into comfort.

The Trapper

I can just see this knife on the belt of a “Voyageur” he paddled with the rest of his crew down a wide northern river, and heaved pack and paddle along some long forgotten portage. These knives are meant for work.

Like all my knives I grind these from a piece of 1/8″ American made 01 flat stock.01 takes and holds a great edge that will let you work all day without resharpening. These blades A wonderful up-sweep with a generous belly and a full straight spine. Like all my knives they come scary sharp. This knife was designed as small camp knife but can handle small to large chores with ease. The blade does have a Quarter height convex grind, as opposed to a true Scandinavian or flat grind, this allows the user a great deal of edge control and ease of sharpening either on stones or with mouse pad and sand paper.

All of my knives are heat treated in a professional grade kiln, oil quenched, and tempered. All this means consistency of quality and performance.

I grind in the final bevels of all my knives by hand before I heat treat them, and after my blades have been heat treated and tempered the edge will not be touched by a machine again. The finished and polished edge is done, by hand, by me, in my living room while watching netflix until they’re scary sharp.

The Guide

I never thought I’d make a clip point blade. It’s not a design I typically gravitate to. In this case however I sat the steel in front of me to draw a blade out and  it just screamed “I WANT TO BE A CLIP POINT HUNTER” so I did what the steel asked.
